Walmart customers who have purchased certain weighted groceries or bagged fruit may be eligible to receive compensation from a $45 million settlement resulting from a class action lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges that Walmart overcharged customers for products sold by weight. Customers have until June 5, 2024, to opt-in and submit a claim to receive payment from the settlement.

According to reports, customers who bought bagged fruit or other eligible sold-by-weight groceries from Walmart between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024, may qualify to be included in the settlement. The lawsuit claims that Walmart falsely inflated product weight, mislabeled the weight of bagged produce, and overcharged for clearance items.

The settlement, which is subject to final approval, has a scheduled final approval hearing on June 12, 2024. Customers who wish to be excluded from the settlement have until May 22, 2024, to opt-out.

Those who have a receipt for their eligible product purchases will be entitled to receive 2% of the total cost of the substantiated Weighted Goods and Bagged Citrus Purchased, capped at five hundred dollars ($500.00). Customers without a receipt can still submit a claim for a payment between $10 and $25, depending on the number of products they attest to purchasing.
