Dan Lin to Replace Scott Stuber as Netflix’s Top Film Executive

Netflix has announced that Dan Lin will be taking over as the streaming company’s top film executive, replacing Scott Stuber. Stuber, who headed Netflix Film for seven years, played a significant role in bringing Oscar-winning filmmakers to the platform and shaping its influence in the entertainment industry’s shift towards streaming.

At 50 years old, Dan Lin, the founder of Rideback Productions and former senior vice president of production at Warner Bros., has been appointed to this key role. Lin’s notable works include producing Netflix’s live-action remake of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ and the Oscar-nominated film ‘The Two Popes.’ His diverse portfolio, from blockbuster hits like ‘Aladdin’ to prestigious films like ‘The Two Popes,’ showcases his ability to oversee Netflix’s varied film slate. He will report to Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s chief content officer.

Lin expressed his excitement about the new opportunity, stating, ‘While I’ve been approached many times during my past 15 years at Rideback, I could truly never imagine leaving until Bela reached out with this incredible opportunity.’

As the son of Taiwanese immigrants, Lin is recognized as part of the new generation of producers advocating for inclusivity in the industry. His reputation as a strong executive with extensive industry relationships positions him as a valuable addition to Netflix’s leadership. In addition to his new role at Netflix, Lin is currently producing the live-action version of ‘Lilo & Stitch’ for Walt Disney.

Prior to his appointment at Netflix, Lin’s name was under consideration for the position of running DC Studios for Warner Bros., a role eventually split between filmmaker James Gunn and another executive.
