Evan Fournier, the former New York Knicks player, returned to Madison Square Garden with the Detroit Pistons, acknowledging that his record for the most 3-pointers in a single season for the Knicks may soon be surpassed by Donte DiVincenzo.
Fournier, who set the franchise’s single-season record with 241 treys during the 2021-22 season, expressed his confidence that DiVincenzo, currently with 172 3-pointers, is on pace to break his record. DiVincenzo’s shooting percentage from beyond the arc stands at 41.5%, higher than Fournier’s 38.9% when he set the record.
Reflecting on his time with the Knicks, Fournier mentioned his memorable debut, scoring 32 points in a double-overtime victory against the Celtics. However, his stint with the Knicks was marred by being benched in subsequent seasons due to defensive concerns raised by coach Tom Thibodeau.
Fournier, who expressed a desire for a relocation to salvage the prime of his career, found out about his trade to the Pistons while at the Knicks practice facility. Despite the Pistons’ poor record, Fournier has been receiving more playing time and is averaging 21.5 minutes and 11.5 points in four appearances.
During his return game with the Pistons, Fournier stated that there was no extra motivation for the matchup and emphasized his focus on playing well and helping the young Pistons team grow.
