Thousands of runners are gearing up for the Cowtown Marathon in Fort Worth, with last-minute preparations underway for the popular event. The marathon, set to take place over two days, is expected to draw crowds that rival pre-pandemic levels, making it an unusually crowded and hot affair. Organizers are urging caution as temperatures are forecasted to reach an unseasonable 80 degrees or more, issuing a heat advisory and advising runners to hydrate and slow down their pace.
With more than 23,000 runners participating in the various races, including the 10K, adult 5K, kids 5K, wheelchair/handcycle races, half marathon, full marathon, and ultra marathon, the event is set to be a bustling affair. To combat the heat, organizers are taking extra precautions, such as adding iced towels and misters along the course, as well as providing ice baths at the medical tent.
Street closures are also in place, and runners are encouraged to arrive at least an hour before their race. With over 4,000 volunteers on hand to ensure the smooth running of the event, there is still room for more cheerleaders along the route to support the runners.
The Cowtown Marathon Executive Director, Heidi Swartz, emphasized the need for runners to take extra precautions in the warm weather and highlighted the importance of support from the community, especially given the anticipated high temperatures. The event is not only a test of endurance for the runners but also a testament to the spirit of community and support that defines the Cowtown Marathon.
