FC Cincinnati Prepares for Debut in Concacaf Champions Cup in 2024

FC Cincinnati is gearing up for their debut in the Concacaf Champions Cup in 2024, and the team is preparing for any challenges that may come their way. The team recently took to the field in Clearwater, Florida amidst heavy rainfall, signaling the start of the season’s first ‘match week’.

As the rain continued to pour down during their practice session, the team realized that they needed to adapt to the challenging weather conditions, understanding that similar conditions may be encountered during their upcoming match in Jamaica. This will mark FC Cincinnati’s first foray into continental competition, a significant milestone for the club and a testament to their performance in 2023.

The Concacaf Champions Cup is a prestigious tournament, akin to the UEFA Champions League in Europe, and offers substantial rewards to the winning teams, including a cash prize, a coveted trophy, and entry into the FIFA Club World Cup. FC Cincinnati will kick off their campaign with an away fixture against Cavalier FC, the 2022-23 champions of the Jamaican Premier League.

All matches in the Champions Cup will be played on aggregate scoring, with FCC and their opponents facing each other twice, once at TQL Stadium and once at the opponents’ home grounds. The combined scoring of the two matches will determine the victor, with the away goals rule, extra time, and penalty kicks coming into play if necessary.

While FC Cincinnati has the advantage of hosting the second and deciding game in the first round, they may have to navigate challenging away fixtures in the subsequent rounds. Their first international road contest will take them to Independence Park, the home of the Jamaican National Team and the temporary home grounds for Cavalier FC.
