Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, known for his successful transition from pro wrestler to action star, has added another title to his long list of achievements. The former defensive tackle for the University of Miami Hurricanes will serve as the Grand Marshal for the 2024 Great American Race at Daytona International Speedway on Monday, Feb. 19.
As Grand Marshal, Johnson’s chief duty will be to deliver the iconic command, ‘Drivers, start your engines,’ marking a pivotal role in the prestigious event. This year’s Daytona 500 will also feature DJ Khaled as the honorary starter and Miss America Madison Marsh as the pre-race pace-car driver, with Pitbull set to kick off a pre-race concert.
Before gaining fame in action movies and fitness magazine covers, Johnson was a college football player for the Miami Hurricanes and was part of the school’s national championship in 1991. Recently, he was inducted into the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame, an honor that recognizes Polynesia’s greatest football players, coaches, and contributors.
Following his football career, Johnson transitioned to become a pro wrestler, where he gained fame for ‘The Eyebrow’ during his time as a WWE wrestling star. His successful transition from wrestling to acting has made him a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, with notable roles in blockbuster movies.
The rescheduled Daytona 500, initially set for Sunday, has been moved to Monday, Feb. 19, due to inclement weather. With the addition of celebrities like Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, DJ Khaled, and Pitbull, the 2024 Great American Race promises to be an event to remember.
