Grey’s Anatomy Welcomes Back Familiar Faces and Introduces New Characters for Milestone Season 20

Grey’s Anatomy fans are in for a treat as the long-running medical drama gears up for its milestone season 20. The hit ABC series is set to welcome back some familiar faces and introduce new characters when it returns next month.

One of the most exciting returns is that of Jessica Capshaw, who will reprise her role as Dr. Arizona Robbins as a guest star. The beloved pediatric surgeon was last seen in 2018 at the end of season 14 when she moved to New York City to be with her ex-wife, Dr. Callie Torres, and their daughter Sofia.

Capshaw’s departure from the show alongside Sarah Drew’s exit left fans puzzled, as it came with little explanation. At the time, Grey’s creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes expressed the difficulty of saying goodbye to iconic characters like Arizona Robbins and April Kepner, highlighting their underrepresentation in the LGBTQ and devout Christian communities on TV.

In a tweet in March 2018, Capshaw expressed her gratitude for portraying Arizona Robbins, emphasizing the character’s impact as one of the first members of the LGBTQ community to be represented in a series regular role on network television.

Joining Capshaw in the return lineup is Alex Landi, who will reprise his role as Dr. Nico Kim, the television show’s first male LGBTQ+ surgeon and the first male surgeon of Asian descent. Dr. Kim, who is Dr. Levi Schmitt’s ex, was last seen in season 18.

Additionally, the upcoming season will feature guest appearances by Natalie Morales and Freddy Miyares, adding fresh faces to the Grey’s Anatomy universe.

With the return of familiar characters and the introduction of new ones, Grey’s Anatomy season 20 promises to deliver another compelling and dramatic storyline that fans have come to expect from the popular medical drama.
