Zingerman’s Bakehouse, located in Ann Arbor, has issued a recall for its Black Magic Brownies due to potential ‘life-threatening’ walnut allergens. The Food and Drug Administration has also issued a warning regarding the presence of undeclared walnut allergens in the brownies.
The bakery reported the recall after a customer found a walnut in an individually-packaged Black Magic Brownie, despite walnuts not being listed as an ingredient. The affected products include individual packages and the ‘4 Pack’ of the brownies with sell-by dates of Feb. 11 and Feb. 12.
Zingerman’s has emphasized that individuals with a walnut allergy are at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the affected products. The company has urged customers who recently purchased the brownies to either dispose of them or return them to the bakehouse.
The recalled products were sold at retail stores in southeast Michigan and through the company’s online ordering website. Customers with concerns or inquiries regarding the recall are advised to contact Zingerman’s customer service department at 734-761-7255 for further assistance or to request a refund.
