Cambodia Reports Sixth Case of Monkeypox Infection

Cambodia has reported its sixth confirmed case of mpox, also known as monkeypox, as announced by the Ministry of Health. This brings the total number of infections in the kingdom to six since last December, according to a statement from the ministry.

The latest case was confirmed through laboratory results from the National Institute of Public Health, indicating the continued spread of the disease in the country. The infected individual is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, as emphasized by the ministry.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of caution, highlighting the various modes of transmission for the mpox virus. It can be spread through sexual contact, direct contact with body fluids, saliva, and contaminated equipment, as well as from mother to child during or after birth if the mother is infected.

Recognizing the symptoms such as rash with blisters, fever, swollen lymph nodes, headache, muscle aches, and fatigue, the ministry has urged individuals to seek medical consultation or testing for mpox if they experience these signs.

The ongoing developments regarding mpox in Cambodia serve as a reminder of the importance of public health vigilance and awareness, with the ministry’s continued efforts to inform and protect the population from the spread of the disease.
