Funimation, a popular anime streaming service, is set to officially end its website and app services on April 2, 2024. This move comes after the 2021 announcement of Funimation merging into Crunchyroll, providing anime fans with the option to subscribe to both services while Crunchyroll gradually integrates Funimation’s catalog into its platform.
Funimation users now have a two-month window to either cancel their subscription or merge their Funimation and Crunchyroll accounts before the impending shutdown. According to an updated Funimation blog post, users who have never created a Crunchyroll account can seamlessly migrate their Funimation account onto Crunchyroll by simply logging in with their Funimation credentials. Similarly, users who have been managing both a Funimation and a Crunchyroll account under the same email address can sync their accounts on Crunchyroll, ensuring that their watch history and queue are automatically included.
This change marks a significant shift in the anime streaming landscape, as Funimation prepares to sunset its services and consolidate its offerings with Crunchyroll. With the deadline fast approaching, Funimation subscribers are urged to take the necessary steps to ensure a smooth transition of their accounts and access to their favorite anime content.
