Dealing with Seasickness on a Celebrity Cruise

If you’re someone who easily gets motion sick, you can relate to my struggle. Whether it’s in a car, on a roller coaster, or even just swimming at the beach, I always seem to feel nauseous. So, when I was invited to the XOMG POP! Royal Caribbean cruise, I was excited but also concerned about dealing with seasickness.

The cruise was hosted by JoJo Siwa and her mother, Jessalynn Siwa, and I was eager to experience the world of pop stars and celebrities. However, my past experience with boat rides had left me feeling miserable and sick. Despite my concerns, I didn’t want to miss out on this opportunity, so I set out to find ways to manage my seasickness.

After consulting with a doctor to understand the causes of seasickness and how to cope with it, I learned that seasickness is a form of motion sickness that can cause symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, cold sweats, headache, and vomiting. Dr. Raj Dasgupta, a board-certified physician and Chief Medical Advisor for Sleep Advisor, explained that motion sickness occurs when the brain struggles to interpret signals from the eyes, ears, and body, particularly from the inner ear responsible for detecting movement and position in space. This sensory confusion disrupts the brain’s ability to maintain balance, leading to seasickness.

Armed with this knowledge, I embarked on the cruise determined to try various seasickness remedies and provide an honest review of their effectiveness. On the first day, I opted to test dimenhydrinate, a common antihistamine used for motion sickness. According to Dr. Dasgupta, this medication works by blocking signals between the inner ear and the brain, reducing sensory confusion and alleviating nausea and motion sickness.
