Laurel, Miss. – The City of Laurel recently paid tribute to Wear Red Day in honor of Faye Jackson’s daughter and to raise awareness about heart disease. Wear Red Day is an annual event aimed at shedding light on the perils of heart disease. Jackson’s daughter, Kaile Porter, tragically succumbed to heart disease at the tender age of 23. Since 2007, the city and Jackson have collaborated to promote awareness about this critical health issue.
According to Jackson, Kaile, who was dearly loved by many, was a vibrant and independent individual. However, her battle with heart disease intensified during the final months of her life. Jackson shared, ‘Kaile was developmentally delayed, but she was loved by many. She was independent; she graduated; she worked; she had a job; she went through every day. But, as heart disease took over more, she couldn’t do it, and that was the last three months of her life.’
National Wear Red Day was observed on Friday, Feb. 2, as part of the ongoing efforts to raise awareness about heart disease. This initiative serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of understanding and combating heart disease, which claims numerous lives each year.
