Kristy Holmes, a 42-year-old electric vehicle owner, utilized her car’s emergency power system to ensure her 11-year-old son, Levi, received life-saving treatment when their power shut off on Christmas Day.

When storms and flash flooding hit south-east Queensland, leaving many residents without power, electric vehicle drivers with ‘vehicle to load’ systems, which can act as an emergency generator, stepped in to help. Holmes, who owns a BYD electric car, initially used it to power fridges for her family and neighbors.
