Buffalo Bills Activate Linebacker Matt Milano for Upcoming Game Against 49ers

Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Bills are set to receive a significant boost to their defense as linebacker Matt Milano has been activated off injured reserve, paving the way for his return to the field in the upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night at 8:20 PM ET.

At 30 years old, Milano has been sidelined since October 8, 2023, when he suffered a season-ending leg injury during a matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Initially on track to return for the 2024 season, Milano faced another setback when he tore his biceps during a training camp drill in August.

Head coach Sean McDermott commented on Milano’s readiness, stating, “Really just the next step, right, so, he hasn’t been through a Friday practice really to this extent. So, we’ll see how he handles today and then go from there.” This cautious approach highlights the team’s focus on ensuring Milano is fully prepared for his return.

Milano’s absence has been felt, especially considering he has played in only five games alongside starting middle linebacker Terrel Bernard. However, Dorian Williams, a third-round pick from the 2023 draft, has stepped up admirably in Milano’s absence. Williams leads the team in tackles with 97 and is second in tackles for loss with five, contributing to the Bills’ impressive 9-2 record this season.

“It feels good just to be out there with the guys, man,” Milano expressed during a press conference on Wednesday. “Be competing again and playing ball.” His enthusiasm is palpable, as he has been a full participant in practice throughout the week.

Milano’s return is anticipated to have a substantial impact on the Bills’ defense. Nickel cornerback Taron Johnson emphasized this sentiment, stating, “The way Matt plays the game, the way he has played the game, is special. So having a guy like that on the field is going to make our defense tremendously better. So, whether he’s here this week or whenever that time comes, just excited to have him back.”

As the Bills prepare for their showdown with the 49ers, they have the opportunity to clinch the AFC East title with a win. However, they will be without rookie defensive tackle DeWayne Carter, who has been downgraded to out for the game due to a wrist injury. Carter’s 21-day practice window remains open.

In addition to Milano’s activation, the Bills have elevated quarterback Mike White and tight end Zach Davidson from the practice squad for the upcoming game. Meanwhile, tight end Dalton Kincaid has already been ruled out due to a wrist injury, and wide receiver Keon Coleman is also sidelined.

The anticipation for Milano’s return is building as fans and teammates alike look forward to seeing him back in action. His leadership and skill on the field are expected to enhance the Bills’ defensive performance as they aim for a successful playoff run.

As the season progresses, the Buffalo Bills remain focused on their goal of securing a top playoff seed and making a deep postseason run. The return of key players like Matt Milano is crucial in their quest for success.
