North Carolina State Fair Food Vendors Undergo Final Inspections Ahead of Opening Day

Raleigh, N.C. – As the North Carolina State Fair approaches its opening day on Thursday, food vendors are undergoing thorough inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. With just one day left before the fair kicks off, inspectors are diligently checking food trucks and stalls to guarantee that all vendors meet the necessary standards.

Among the vendors preparing for the event is Allen Sykes, who operates the Waypoint Oyster Bar food truck. Sykes made the trip from Columbia, North Carolina, to showcase his culinary offerings at this year’s fair. He shared his pre-fair routine, stating, “Just making sure all of our equipment is working well. That and all of our stuff is clean and presentable.” This attention to detail is essential for vendors looking to impress fairgoers.

The North Carolina State Fair is known for its diverse and exciting food options, and this year is no exception. New items on the menu include unique treats such as candied Oreo cake pops and dill pickle corndogs, enticing attendees with innovative flavors and fun combinations.

Ginger Johnson, a representative from Wake County Environmental Health, emphasizes the importance of these inspections. She explains that the health department is assessing various aspects of food safety, including proper sanitation and hygiene practices. “We go in to look to see that food is stored correctly, at the proper temperatures in the right kinds of conditions to make sure that everything is clean, sanitary and we’re keeping our public healthy,” Johnson stated.

Once a vendor passes inspection, they receive a temporary permit, allowing them to operate during the fair. Johnson outlined some of the logistical requirements vendors must adhere to, saying, “They have to come in and set up to protect everything from wind coming through and blowing sand everywhere for instance. They have to put up walls to make sure no one can access the food and the food equipment.” These measures are crucial for maintaining a safe environment for both vendors and fairgoers.

The excitement surrounding the North Carolina State Fair is palpable, with a wide array of food options available for attendees to explore. The gates will open at noon on Thursday, marking the beginning of a much-anticipated event that brings together food lovers and families from across the state.

As the fair unfolds, visitors can expect to indulge in a variety of culinary delights, showcasing the creativity and passion of local vendors. With the promise of new tastes and traditional favorites, the North Carolina State Fair is set to be a flavorful experience for all.
