Arkansas QB Taylen Green Injured, Malachi Singleton Leads Razorbacks to Victory Against Tennessee

FAYETTEVILLE, AR – In a tense matchup against the No. 4 ranked Tennessee Volunteers, Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green exited the game in the fourth quarter due to a concerning leg injury. The incident occurred during a crucial moment as the Razorbacks were pushing into the red zone.

The injury unfolded when Tennessee defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott made a significant tackle, impacting Green’s legs early in the fourth quarter. Following the hit, Green was assisted off the field and taken to the injury tent for evaluation. Redshirt freshman quarterback Malachi Singleton stepped in as the replacement.

Despite initially appearing ready to return to the game, as he emerged from the tent and gave a thumbs-up to the coaching staff, Green did not re-enter immediately. The Razorbacks opted to kick a 23-yard field goal, narrowing Tennessee’s lead to 14-13.

On the subsequent drive, Green did return to the field but seemed to be struggling. After a single play, he was seen hobbling and subsequently returned to the injury tent, before ultimately heading to the locker room.

Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman addressed the situation after the game, stating, “Our diagnosis for him was he could get back in the game if he wanted. He could, but he got tackled again and then we just said, ‘OK, that’s enough, let’s put Malachi in.'” This decision highlights the coaching staff’s cautious approach to managing player health, especially in a high-stakes game.

Malachi Singleton, who was a former four-star recruit from Kennesaw, Georgia, had previously shown promise in limited appearances this season. Before this game, he had completed 8 of 11 passes in two outings, with most of his playing time coming in the season opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and a brief appearance in a victory over Auburn.

Singleton’s performance in the game against Tennessee was critical. He not only took charge after Green’s departure but also led the Razorbacks on a game-winning drive, culminating in an 11-yard touchdown run that secured the victory for Arkansas.

The injury to Green raises questions about his availability for upcoming games and the overall health of the Razorbacks as they navigate a challenging season in the SEC. As the team rallies around Singleton and prepares for future matchups, fans and analysts alike will be closely monitoring Green’s recovery and the team’s performance moving forward.

With the Razorbacks’ season hanging in the balance, the coaching staff and medical team will prioritize Green’s health and readiness for the next game. The team’s ability to adapt and strategize without their starting quarterback will be a significant factor in their quest for success in the remainder of the season.
