Jason Reitman is set to direct a new Sony Pictures feature film, ‘SNL 1975,’ which will depict the early days of the iconic NBC sketch show, Saturday Night Live. The film will focus on the show’s debut night in October 1975 and its subsequent success as it currently airs its 49th season.

The cast for the film includes Gabriel LaBelle, Cooper Hoffman, and Rachel Sennott. LaBelle, known for his role in Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Fabelmans,’ will portray the SNL creator, Lorne Michaels. Hoffman, recognized for his performance in ‘Licorice Pizza,’ is set to play former NBC executive Dick Ebersol, while Sennott will take on the role of Michaels’ ex-wife, Rosie Shuster.

The script for ‘SNL 1975’ was written by Reitman and Gil Kenan, based on extensive interviews with the show’s living cast, writers, and crew. The film is a collaborative production of Reitman, Kenan, Jason Blumenfeld, Erica Mills, and Peter Rice.

In addition to his role in ‘The Fabelmans,’ LaBelle was also part of the cast of Showtime’s ‘American Gigolo.’ Cooper Hoffman, the son of the late Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, gained acclaim for his lead role in ‘Licorice Pizza’ and his appearance in the biographical drama ‘Wildcat.’ Meanwhile, Sennott is known for her work in various films and her recurring role on the HBO series ‘The Idol.’

Jason Reitman’s father, Ivan Reitman, had previously worked with several SNL performers, having produced ‘National Lampoon’s Animal House’ and directed films such as ‘Meatballs,’ ‘Stripes,’ and the original ‘Ghostbusters.’

In a recent interview, Lorne Michaels, now 79, discussed his future with SNL and mentioned Tina Fey as a potential successor to run the show when he decides to retire.
