DeepL Launches Automated Glossary Feature to Enhance Translation Consistency for Businesses

DeepL, the Cologne-based translation company, has recently unveiled an innovative automated glossary function aimed at enhancing translation accuracy and consistency for businesses and experts. This new feature is designed to allow companies to define specific terminology and phrases, ensuring that translations align with their unique specifications.

According to DeepL’s press release, the integration of glossaries enables both the language AI and company employees to quickly access the appropriate phrases for specific translations. This is particularly beneficial in maintaining a consistent tone and vocabulary across various documents and communications.

The process for creating a glossary has been streamlined, requiring users to simply upload existing translations that have been previously checked and approved. Supported file formats include TMX, DOCX, and PDF. However, this automated glossary generation is a feature exclusive to paying subscribers. For those who prefer a more hands-on approach, glossaries can also be created and edited manually.

DeepL’s glossary feature is accessible through various platforms, including their browser version, extensions, and applications for popular services such as Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. This wide accessibility ensures that users can leverage these glossaries in their daily workflows, enhancing productivity and translation quality.

One of the standout benefits of the glossary feature is its capability to not only provide translations for individual words but also to adapt entire sentences automatically. This functionality is expected to significantly reduce the amount of post-editing required after translations are completed. In comparative tests, DeepL’s translations reportedly required approximately 20 percent less post-editing than those generated by GPT-4, and 30 percent less than those from Google Translate.

DeepL’s glossary function is poised to improve the overall consistency and accuracy of translations, making it a valuable tool for businesses operating in multilingual environments. As part of their commitment to continuous improvement, DeepL plans to expand the number of language combinations available for glossaries. Upcoming additions will include Korean, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, and Romanian, bringing the total number of supported languages to 16.

In today’s globalized market, AI-powered translations are becoming increasingly essential for companies aiming to break down language barriers. Christopher Osborne, Product Owner at DeepL, emphasized the importance of this new glossary feature, stating that it allows businesses to customize translations according to their specific terminology and requirements.

DeepL currently serves over 100,000 clients across various sectors, including corporate and government entities. While the translation function is available for free on the web, the premium version, DeepL Pro, offers enhanced features and data processing that complies with stringent data protection standards, including GDPR regulations.

In an era where consistent branding is crucial, DeepL’s glossary function can play a significant role in helping companies maintain their brand identity across different languages. Research indicates that consistent branding can boost sales by up to 20 percent and increase brand awareness by three to four times.

As the demand for effective translation solutions continues to grow, DeepL’s automated glossary function represents a significant advancement in the field, providing businesses with the tools they need to communicate effectively in a diverse linguistic landscape.
