Bryan Craig Returns to General Hospital as Morgan Corinthos

Exclusive Interview: Bryan Craig Talks About His Return to General Hospital as Morgan Corinthos

In a surprising turn of events, Bryan Craig is making a brief yet impactful return to the beloved daytime soap opera General Hospital as Morgan Corinthos, a role that earned him two Daytime Emmy Awards during his original tenure from 2013 to 2016. The actor’s comeback has been highly anticipated by fans, especially with the prospect of reuniting with Maurice Benard, who portrays his on-screen father, Sonny Corinthos.

Craig revealed that the opportunity to reprise his role came through the usual channels, with casting director Mark Teschner and executive producer Frank Valentini reaching out to his agents. “They asked if I would be interested in coming back for a special episode,” Craig explained. His immediate response was enthusiastic: “Well, what is it? And who is it with?” When he learned that all his scenes would be with Maurice Benard, he jokingly remarked, “Say less! Yeah, I’m down.” This excitement underscores the strong bond between the two actors and their chemistry on screen.

The actor expressed his gratitude for still being on the show’s radar after all these years. Craig mentioned, “I’m surprised that they haven’t recast the role in such a long time. I’m very grateful because I love working with Maurice, and I love what we did towards the end of that run, especially when Morgan and Sonny both dealt with bipolar disorder. It was such a fun experience to be asked back and to further that storyline a little bit years later. I feel very privileged.”

This upcoming episode marks Craig’s second return to the series since Morgan’s dramatic death in a car bomb explosion intended for Sonny. His first return was in 2018 when he portrayed a figment of his ex-lover Ava’s imagination. Reflecting on his return to the set nearly six years later, Craig described the experience as surreal. “It was weird, like I was stepping back into a decade ago. Nothing over there at the studio has really changed. Some things have changed a little bit, but it was the craziest thing, going on the set because none of my former co-stars had changed at all! They didn’t age! It’s like GH is a time capsule or something. Seriously, it was really weird. If anything, everybody looked even better!”

Craig continued to share his thoughts on the production environment, noting, “It was strange just to see the machine of production running the same way it was running 10 years ago, not a beat skipped.” This sentiment highlights the show’s enduring nature and the dedication of its cast and crew.

Before filming, Craig had a chance to reconnect with Benard. “He and I keep in touch, and we’d talked briefly before because I hadn’t gotten the pages from the script yet. I was like, ‘Dude, give me the low-down! Tell me what we’re doing!’ So, he kind of filled me in before I got the pages, which was cool. We were both really excited to work together again.” This camaraderie between the two actors is evident and adds depth to their on-screen relationship.

As fans eagerly await the airing of this special episode, Bryan Craig’s return as Morgan Corinthos serves as a reminder of the rich history and emotional storytelling that General Hospital has provided over the years. The character’s complex journey, particularly his struggles with mental health, resonates with many viewers, making this return even more significant.

In the ever-evolving landscape of daytime television, the return of familiar faces like Bryan Craig not only excites long-time fans but also introduces new viewers to the intricate narratives that have captivated audiences for decades. As the storyline unfolds, viewers can expect to see the dynamic between Morgan and Sonny further explored, adding another layer to the already rich tapestry of Port Charles’ drama.

Stay tuned for Bryan Craig’s return to General Hospital, where the legacy of Morgan Corinthos continues to unfold in ways that honor the character’s past while paving the way for new developments in his story.
