Teoscar Hernández Makes History as 2024 MLB Home Run Derby Champion

Teoscar Hernández made history as he won the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby, becoming the first Los Angeles Dodgers champion at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Hernández defeated Bobby Witt Jr. in the final with a score of 14-13.

In a thrilling first round, Hernández hit 14 home runs and went on to outlast Alec Bohm in a swing-off in the semifinals. Witt, the young Kansas City Royals shortstop, put up a tough fight but fell just short with a score of 13 in the final.

Bohm surprised everyone by belting 21 home runs in the first round, tying with Jose Ramirez for the joint-best total. Witt also had a strong performance, defeating Ramirez 17-12 in the semifinal.

Two-time champion Pete Alonso finished seventh with 12 home runs in the first round, while Adolis Garcia, Marcell Ozuna, and Gunnar Henderson also showcased their power but fell short of advancing to the next round.

In the swing-off to reach the final, Hernández managed to hit 2 home runs to Bohm’s 1 in three swings, securing his spot in the championship round against Witt.
