Beastie Boys Sue Chili’s Parent Company for Unauthorized Use of ‘Sabotage’

Beastie Boys have taken legal action against the parent company of Chili’s restaurant chain for the unauthorized use of their song ‘Sabotage’ and the depiction of characters resembling the band members in the song’s music video.

The lawsuit, filed by surviving members Adam Horovitz and Michael Diamond, along with the estate of Adam Yauch, accuses Brinker International of copyright infringement and trademark violations. The claim states that Brinker used ‘Sabotage’ in a social media ad to promote Chili’s, with visuals resembling those in the music video.

The legal action aims to prevent further infringements and seek statutory damages under the Copyright Act. The Beastie Boys assert that they do not authorize their intellectual property for third-party advertising purposes.
