Duvall’s career began with her appearance in Altman’s 1970 film “Brewster McCloud.” She went on to work with Altman on several projects, earning accolades such as the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress for her role in “3 Women.”
One of Duvall’s most notable roles was alongside Jack Nicholson in Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” in 1980. She also starred opposite Robin Williams in Altman’s “Popeye” the same year. After a successful career spanning the ’80s and ’90s, Duvall retired from acting in 2002.
In 2016, Duvall appeared on “Dr. Phil,” where she opened up about her struggles with mental illness. The interview sparked controversy, with Kubrick’s daughter criticizing the show for its treatment of Duvall.
Despite her retirement, Duvall made a comeback in 2023 with the horror film “The Forest Hills,” marking her final on-screen appearance.
Shelley Duvall and Dan Gilroy’s relationship began in 1989 during their work on Disney Channel’s “Mother Goose Rock ‘n’ Rhyme.” The couple resided in Blanco, Texas, and did not have any children.
