Authorities have issued a recall for over 2,000 pounds of frozen chicken products due to potential contamination with listeria monocytogenes. The recall was initiated by Canada-based Al-Safa US LLC after routine testing by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) revealed the contamination.

The affected products, produced in Canada on June 5, 2024, and imported to the U.S. on June 13 and June 21, include ‘Al Safa Halal Charcoal Grilled Chicken Seekh Kebab Grilled, Minced, Chicken Patty Kebab’ and ‘Al Safa Halal Fully Cooked Chicken Chapli Kebab Seasoned Chicken Patty.’ These products bear establishment number 866 in the Canadian mark of inspection and were distributed to retailers nationwide.

Consumption of products contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, fever, and diarrhea. In severe cases, the bacteria can affect the nervous system, potentially causing meningitis or other serious illnesses. Pregnant individuals face a higher risk, including the potential for miscarriage.

Vulnerable populations, including children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems, are at higher risk of infection. As of now, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these recalled products.
