Apple Reclassifies iPhone X, HomePod, and AirPods as ‘Vintage’ Products

Apple has reclassified the iPhone X, first-generation HomePod, and first-generation AirPods as ‘vintage’ products. These products have been moved to Apple’s vintage and obsolete products list, indicating that they were last distributed for sale more than five but less than seven years ago. Despite this reclassification, Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers will continue to offer repairs for these vintage products for up to two more years, depending on parts availability.

The iPhone X, unveiled on September 12, 2017, and launched on November 3, 2017, marked a significant milestone in Apple’s smartphone design and functionality. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, the iPhone X introduced notable changes, such as the elimination of the home button to make way for a bezel-less 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display. The device also debuted Face ID, a facial recognition system that replaced Touch ID for authentication. Additionally, the iPhone X featured the A11 Bionic chip with the first Neural Engine by Apple, enhancing machine learning capabilities, and supported wireless charging for the first time. Its premium design included a stainless steel frame and glass back.

The original HomePod was announced on June 5, 2017, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) and released on February 9, 2018. Priced at $349 initially, the HomePod aimed to provide high-quality audio while seamlessly integrating with Apple’s ecosystem, particularly Apple Music and AirPlay. Equipped with a custom-engineered woofer and seven beamforming tweeters, the HomePod was powered by the Apple A8 chip, enabling advanced acoustic modeling and audio features. Siri was integrated into the HomePod, enabling users to control music playback, manage smart home devices, and access services through voice commands.

Apple introduced the original AirPods on September 7, 2016, and officially launched them on December 13, 2016, with a retail price of $159. These wireless earbuds revolutionized the market with their seamless connectivity to Apple devices, thanks to the custom W1 chip. The chip facilitated effortless pairing with Apple devices, providing users with a hassle-free experience.
