A hurricane warning has left the T20 World Cup-winning India team stranded in Barbados after their recent triumph. The team, led by head coach Rahul Dravid, is currently staying at the Hilton Hotel as they await further travel arrangements.

Hurricane Beryl, a Category 4 storm, is expected to pass by Barbados on Sunday night local time, with the airport already closed since Sunday evening. This has disrupted the team’s plans to charter a flight straight home following their victory.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has mentioned that a felicitation ceremony is being planned for the team once they are able to return to India. However, with the current travel uncertainties, the arrangements are on hold until the situation clears up.

Looking ahead, the Indian team will see a change in leadership as a new head coach is set to take over from the limited-overs series in Sri Lanka later this month. Gautam Gambhir, the former India opener, is a top contender for the position, with the Cricket Advisory Committee shortlisting him along with former India women’s coach WV Raman.

As the team prepares for their upcoming tour to Sri Lanka for a series of T20Is and ODIs starting July 27, Shah has confirmed that senior players will continue to be part of the squad for future tournaments, including the Champions Trophy and the World Test Championship final, should India qualify. The decision on the next T20I captain, succeeding Rohit Sharma, will be solely made by the selectors.

With the recent retirements of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja from T20Is, the Indian team is focused on building a squad that aims to win major championships in the future. Shah emphasized the team’s goal to excel in the upcoming tournaments and maintain a competitive edge in international cricket.
