Blackmagic Design, known for its professional-grade video recording app, has expanded its reach by launching the Blackmagic Camera app on select Android devices. Initially available only for iPhones, the app is now accessible to users of Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones, providing them with advanced shooting features and compatibility with Blackmagic Design’s video production tools.
Grant Petty, the CEO of Blackmagic Design, expressed excitement about offering Android users the same level of control and quality in digital film shooting as their professional cameras. However, there is a catch – the app is currently limited to devices running Android 13 or later, specifically the Samsung Galaxy S23, S24, and Google Pixel 7/8 series.
Despite the restriction to a few Android models, the Blackmagic Camera app retains its intuitive interface with an overlaid heads-up display (HUD) for easy access to various shooting settings. This HUD not only displays crucial information like focus and exposure but also allows users to adjust settings promptly by tapping on the items within the display.
While standard camera apps on iOS and Android prioritize simplicity and automation, the Blackmagic Camera app stands out by catering to professional photographers and videographers with its advanced features, all offered completely free of charge on the Android platform. Moreover, users can conveniently store their footage on Blackmagic Design’s cloud service for seamless editing and post-production processes.
