New York Mets Closer Edwin Diaz Facing 10-Game Suspension After Ejection

In a recent turn of events, New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz is facing a 10-game suspension after being ejected during the ninth inning of a game against the Chicago Cubs. The incident occurred following a routine check for foreign substances carried out by crew chief Vic Carapazza.

Carapazza ejected Diaz before he even threw a pitch after discovering what he described as an ‘extremely sticky’ substance on the pitcher’s hand. According to MLB regulations, ejections related to foreign substances result in an automatic 10-game suspension.

Diaz, who had a successful start to the season with five saves and a 2.30 ERA in his first 15 appearances, has faced challenges in recent games. Currently holding a record of 2-1 with a 4.70 ERA and seven saves in 11 opportunities, Diaz’s performance has been under scrutiny.

The 30-year-old pitcher, a two-time All-Star, has accumulated 212 saves and maintained a 3.03 ERA over his eight-year career in the major leagues, playing for the Seattle Mariners from 2016 to 2018 before joining the Mets in 2019.

This suspension comes as a setback for Diaz and the Mets as they navigate the ongoing baseball season. Fans and analysts will be closely watching how the team adjusts to Diaz’s absence and how the pitcher himself responds to this disciplinary action.
