Nick Frost, known for his roles in Edgar Wright movies such as Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, is set to star in Universal Pictures’ live-action adaptation of DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon. The project, helmed by Dean DeBlois, the original trilogy’s co-writer and director, is gaining momentum with an exciting cast lineup.
The live-action remake will feature Mason Thames and Nico Parker as Hiccup and Astrid, the young protagonists who form a bond with dragons. Additionally, Gerard Butler will reprise his role as Stoick the Vast, the leader of the Viking clan and Hiccup’s father, in the upcoming adaptation.
Nick Frost is set to portray Gobber the Belch, the trusted friend and adviser of Stoick. The film is based on the books by Cressida Cowell and will continue the narrative of the special friendship between Hiccup and Toothless, an injured dragon nursed back to health by the young Viking.
The production team, led by Dean DeBlois, includes Marc Platt and Adam Siegel from Marc Platt Productions, with Lexi Barta overseeing the film on behalf of Universal. The highly anticipated live-action adaptation is scheduled for release on June 13, 2025.
