Bangladesh Fast Bowler Shoriful Islam Injured Ahead of T20 World Cup Opener

Bangladesh faces uncertainty as fast bowler Shoriful Islam suffered a webbing injury on his bowling hand during a warm-up match, raising doubts about his availability for the upcoming T20 World Cup opener against Sri Lanka on June 7.

The incident occurred during a warm-up game against India when Shoriful split the webbing between his index and middle finger on his left hand while attempting to stop a drive from Hardik Pandya. The left-arm fast bowler, visibly in pain, was promptly attended to by the team physio and later received six stitches on the injured area.

Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s chief physician, provided an update on Shoriful’s condition, stating that the player will be reevaluated after two days to determine his recovery timeline. With the team traveling to Texas for their opening match, Shoriful has a limited window to regain fitness.

Shoriful’s absence would be a significant blow to Bangladesh, especially with Taskin Ahmed also recuperating from a side strain. In the warm-up game, Shoriful’s performance stood out as he claimed figures of 1 for 26 in a match that Bangladesh lost by 60 runs.

As the team anxiously awaits Shoriful’s prognosis, the focus remains on his swift recovery to bolster Bangladesh’s pace attack for the crucial tournament ahead.
