After updating to the latest beta version of Google Maps, some Android Auto users are experiencing issues with mapping in their cars. Reports from various forums suggest that Google Maps in Android Auto is crashing for some users, while other mapping apps like Waze are still functional. The problem seems to be linked to version 11.132.0100 of Google Maps for Android released on June 3, affecting users of Pixel, Samsung, and other phones.
Although the rest of the Android Auto features are working fine, launching Google Maps specifically is causing trouble. Users are advised to leave the Google Maps beta through the Play Store, then navigate to App info > overflow menu > Uninstall updates, and finally update to the latest stable version available on Google Play.
It is expected that Google will release a patch to address this issue promptly. While there have been a few reports of stable users also encountering problems, the majority of issues seem to be with beta users.
In the meantime, New York City has been utilizing Google Maps to assist in locating public bathrooms, showcasing the versatility of the mapping platform. Additionally, a simplified bottom bar design for Google Maps on Android is currently being rolled out to enhance user experience.
With over 200 million cars equipped with Android Auto, the platform has seen significant adoption a decade after its introduction. Despite the recent challenges faced by some users, the overall reception of Android Auto remains positive.
