Indian Open of Surfing has concluded with Tamil Nadu surfers dominating the competition across all categories. Ajeesh Ali emerged as the champion in the Men’s Open category, while Kamali Moorthi defended her titles in the Women’s Open and Groms Girls & U-16 divisions. The event, which took place at Sasihithlu beach in Mangaluru, showcased impressive surfing skills from the participants.
The Surfing Federation of India, the governing body for surfing and stand-up paddling, organized the fifth edition of the Indian Open of Surfing. Ajeesh Ali, who had previously competed in the Paris Olympics qualifiers, clinched the top spot in the Men’s Open category. Kamali Moorthi, a teenage sensation, showcased her talent by securing victories in two categories.
Young surfers from Tamil Nadu also made their mark at the competition. Tayin Arun impressed the judges with his skills and was crowned the champion in the Groms Boys & U-16 category. The event received accolades for the competitive spirit displayed by the athletes and the high-quality surfing conditions at the venue.
The championship, hosted by the Mantra Surf Club and organized by the Surfing Swami Foundation, witnessed intense competition over the three days. Winners were awarded cash prizes, trophies, and certificates by prominent figures in the surfing community. The event highlighted the growing popularity of surfing in India and the potential for Indian surfers to excel on the international stage.
Head Judge Dylan Amar from Indonesia praised the athletes for their performance and competitiveness, stating that Indian surfers could soon make their mark on the global surfing scene if they continue to showcase such dedication and skill. The event also featured exciting semifinal and final rounds in various categories, with participants vying for top honors.
Tayin Arun’s victory in the Groms Boys & U-16 category marked a significant moment in his surfing career, as he expressed his joy at winning his first IOS title.
