Green Line service between Kenmore and Haymarket stations has resumed after a temporary halt on Monday afternoon, as reported by MBTA officials. The service disruption occurred when a disabled train required 46 riders to be evacuated, causing delays for nearly three hours.
The incident took place around 2:20 p.m. when an inbound Green Line train near Copley station experienced a malfunction with its pantograph, a crucial component that enables the trolley to move along the overhead wire while receiving electricity. Transportation crews swiftly evacuated the passengers from the stranded train and guided them back to the station’s eastbound platform.
Following extensive repairs, the disabled train was back in operation by 4:45 p.m. However, the MBTA’s various teams were still investigating the root cause of the pantograph’s damage beyond 5 p.m. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries during the incident, although Transit Police and fire personnel were on-site as a precautionary measure.
Passengers were promptly notified about the situation at Copley station through an official MBTA social media update just before 2:10 p.m. Subsequently, shuttle buses were arranged to substitute Green Line services between Kenmore and Government Center stations starting at 2:15 p.m.
Even as repairs were underway, shuttle buses remained in operation between Kenmore and Haymarket stations until approximately 4:40 p.m., as communicated by the MBTA. Commuters relying on the B Branch were advised to utilize the 57 bus service as an alternative mode of transportation.
