Residents of a Spring Branch apartment complex in Houston are facing dire circumstances as they have been without electricity for a week, leading to health concerns and food spoilage. The Valencia Spring Branch apartment complex residents, including Moses Lopez and his children, are enduring extreme heat inside their apartments, forcing them to seek relief outdoors where they are plagued by mosquitoes.

Despite their pleas for assistance, the residents claim that the management has not taken adequate action to resolve the power outage issue following recent storms. CenterPoint, the utility company, stated that the infrastructure on their end is functioning properly and that it is the customer’s equipment that requires repair.

The primary cause of the problem appears to be a downed power pole that remains unrepaired, exacerbating the residents’ already challenging situation. Rocio Moreno, another tenant at the complex, expressed frustration over the lack of progress in restoring power, resulting in a week of discomfort and food wastage.

Efforts to prompt property managers to address the issue were met with resistance, as the managers reportedly called the authorities on the residents instead of taking action to resolve the power outage. In response, legal experts from Lonestar Legal Aid advised tenants to send certified repair demand letters to the landlord outlining the conditions and seeking resolution. If no action is taken within a week, tenants may have grounds to pursue legal action.

Tenants were also informed of their rights to allow individuals into their homes under certain conditions, emphasizing the importance of adhering to legal guidelines to address the ongoing challenges faced by the residents of the Spring Branch apartment complex.
