The Brooklyn Half marathon, a highly anticipated event, is scheduled for Saturday, bringing about road closures across the borough. New York Road Runners are expecting a turnout of over 26,000 runners for the event.
The race is set to kick off at 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, with the second wave of runners commencing at 8 a.m. Bag check facilities will open at 5 a.m., followed by security screenings at 5:30 a.m.
The 13.1-mile route will take participants on a scenic journey starting from the Brooklyn Museum, passing by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, circling Grand Army Plaza, traversing through Prospect Park, and finally leading to the iconic Coney Island boardwalk.
For the convenience of participants and spectators, it is recommended to utilize the N or Q subway lines from Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue post-race. Please note that on the day of the event, D and F trains will not be stopping at that station due to ongoing track maintenance and signal modernization.
Street closures will be in effect to ensure the safety and smooth running of the event. Various streets will be closed at different times throughout the day, from as early as midnight to as late as 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Some of the notable closures include Eastern Parkway, President Street, Union Street, Washington Avenue, West 10th Street, Stillwell Avenue, West 12th Street, West 15th Street, West 16th Street, West Brighton Avenue, Sea Breeze Avenue, West Fifth Street, and Empire Boulevard.
