Sarah Paulson, the renowned actress, recently shared insights into her decade-long relationship with partner Holland Taylor. In a podcast episode of ‘Smartless,’ Paulson revealed that the key to their successful relationship is living separately.
Despite being together since 2015, Paulson, 49, emphasized that she and Taylor do not cohabit, highlighting that spending quality time together without sharing a home has been vital to their bond. ‘We’ve been together for a long time now, and I think part of it has to do with, we’re together when we wanna be and we’re not when we don’t,’ Paulson explained.
Addressing the idea of having separate bedrooms in the same residence, Paulson dismissed it, noting their preference for physical closeness at night. ‘I like to sleep near her. I don’t want to be around her the rest of the time,’ she humorously added.
The couple, who made their relationship public in 2015, faced media attention due to their significant 32-year age gap. Taylor, who turned 81 in January, had not previously been in a long-term relationship before Paulson.
Paulson reflected on their differing experiences with long-term commitments, mentioning that she has had multiple relationships exceeding five years, while Taylor had not cohabited with a partner for an extended period before. Understanding each other’s needs and boundaries has been crucial for their relationship’s longevity.
Moreover, Taylor has expressed similar sentiments regarding their professional lives as actresses. In an interview with Variety, she confessed that she couldn’t envision working alongside her partner, emphasizing the importance of maintaining individuality within their shared endeavors.
The couple’s decision to keep certain aspects of their lives separate underscores their respect for each other’s space and independence. By recognizing the value of autonomy and personal boundaries, Paulson and Taylor have cultivated a strong and enduring relationship based on mutual understanding and companionship.
