OpenAI, a leading artificial intelligence research laboratory, has recently released draft guidelines regarding the responsible generation of AI-generated pornographic content. The company disclosed its exploration into the production of explicit materials while outlining its desired behavior for AI technology, including ChatGPT.
The Model Spec document, a comprehensive guide to OpenAI’s AI technology, reveals that the organization is considering the responsible creation of not safe for work (NSFW) content within appropriate contexts through its API and ChatGPT platforms. While OpenAI’s current usage policies prohibit sexually explicit or suggestive content, the company is contemplating potential adjustments to accommodate such materials.
The document specifies that NSFW content may encompass erotica, extreme gore, slurs, and unsolicited profanity. However, the extent to which OpenAI intends to relax its usage policy remains uncertain. This could range from permitting the generation of erotic text to broader allowances for violent descriptions or depictions.
Grace McGuire, a spokesperson for OpenAI, emphasized that the Model Spec aims to enhance transparency in the development process and solicit feedback from various stakeholders, including the public and policymakers. McGuire refrained from divulging specific details regarding OpenAI’s exploration of explicit content generation and the feedback received on the concept.
Earlier discussions within OpenAI hinted at the potential inclusion of nudity in content generated by the company’s video tool, Sora. The Chief Technology Officer, Mira Murati, expressed uncertainty about allowing nudity in the future, underscoring the complexity and ethical considerations associated with AI-generated pornography.
The emergence of AI-generated pornographic content, commonly referred to as deepfake porn, has raised significant concerns due to its potential misuse and ethical implications. OpenAI, known for pioneering generative AI technology, is treading carefully as it navigates the landscape of explicit content creation, seeking to balance innovation with responsible usage.
