Fatal Fury fans are in for a treat as the upcoming game, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, is confirmed to include a nod to the classic anime that many grew up with. The highly anticipated revival of Fatal Fury after 25 years seems to be a heartfelt homage to the beloved series, with a special touch that references the early ’90s anime.
During the recent Evo Japan 2024 event, players had the opportunity to discover Terry Bogard’s Hidden Gear attack named Cosmic Strike Geyser. This move sees the iconic protagonist execute a powerful kick followed by a ground-pounding punch, creating a fiery twister reminiscent of the Power Geyser move. Fans were quick to draw comparisons to Terry’s Hado Senpukyaku from the Fatal Fury anime, noting the striking similarities.
Yasuyuki Oda, a longstanding producer at SNK, confirmed online that the game’s artists were tasked with capturing the essence of Masami Obari, the legendary director behind the original Fatal Fury anime film and subsequent installments. Oda expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans, citing their encouragement as a driving force behind the team’s dedication to the project.
Masami Obari himself acknowledged the return of the anime move, expressing his honor and emotions at witnessing the revival of a series he was involved with over three decades ago. Obari, known for his work on The King of Fighters 15, continues to collaborate with SNK, further solidifying the connection between the past and present of the franchise.
Aside from the anime reference, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves also pays homage to its roots with a character select screen reminiscent of the original trilogy. Additionally, the announcement of Marco Rodrigues’ return as a playable character in the new game has further excited fans.
Set to be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves promises to blend nostalgia with modern gaming experiences, offering a fresh take on the classic franchise for both longtime enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
