Search Continues for Missing Teen Child of Tech Billionaire

The search for the missing 16-year-old child of a billionaire co-founder of a well-known tech company continues as authorities work tirelessly to locate Mint Butterfield, who was last seen in Bolinas, California. Mint, who prefers they/them pronouns, disappeared on Sunday, April 21, sparking concerns about their whereabouts.

Adam Schermerhorn, a public information officer with the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, mentioned that efforts are ongoing to gather digital devices and other items that could provide clues about Mint’s location. Despite the ongoing investigation, authorities have stated that there is currently no suspicion of foul play or criminal activity related to Mint’s disappearance.

According to a press release from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Mint is considered a “voluntary missing person.” The teen’s mother, Caterina Fake, reported Mint missing after finding a note indicating their departure. Authorities have highlighted that Mint’s past history of substance abuse and a reported previous threat of suicide categorize them as an “At-Risk” juvenile.

There are suspicions that Mint may have headed to the Tenderloin District of San Francisco, a neighborhood known for its challenges with substance abuse. Despite efforts from both Marin County Sheriffs and the San Francisco Police Department, Mint has not been located yet.

Caterina Fake, Mint’s mother, is a notable figure in the tech industry, having co-founded Flickr with her ex-husband, Stewart Butterfield, in 2004. After their divorce, Stewart went on to co-found Slack, a popular communication platform that was later acquired for billions of dollars.

The community remains hopeful for Mint’s safe return as the search efforts continue in both Bolinas and San Francisco. Anyone with information regarding Mint’s whereabouts is urged to contact the authorities to help bring Mint back home.
