New Talking Security Camera Equipped with Tear Gas Robot Gun Raises Concerns

A new talking security camera has been introduced with a rather alarming feature – a robot gun that can shoot people with tear gas. The camera, known as ‘PaintCam Eve,’ is designed to be an autonomous surveillance system that can detect individuals using AI and respond by either shooting paintballs or tear gas.

The manufacturer, Slovenia-based OZ-IT’s startup, describes the camera as a vigilant guardian that operates continuously without any breaks. The camera comes in three versions – Eve, Eve+, and Eve Pro, each offering different functionalities such as animal detection and facial recognition.

In a peculiar promotional video, the camera is showcased as being equipped with an integrated paintball launcher, which can also dispense tear gas. The video demonstrates the camera warning an unauthorized person to leave the premises within a specific timeframe.

Aside from live monitoring and customizable alerts, the camera’s website suggests that it can activate its paintball and tear gas features if intruders fail to comply with initial warnings. The camera is designed to allow users to have security control on their own terms, even in situations where immediate action is required.

Although the release date and pricing details for the PaintCam Eve are currently unavailable, OZ-IT plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign on April 23 to fund the project. This innovative security technology raises concerns about potential misuse, such as using tear gas on animals or targeting specific groups based on discriminatory motives.

The introduction of this advanced security camera adds to the growing list of AI-driven home technologies. With its controversial capabilities, the PaintCam Eve prompts questions about its ethical implications and the necessity for such intrusive surveillance tools in residential settings.
