Mad Max fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the prequel, Furiosa, but little do they know that the concept has been in the works for over 15 years. In an exclusive interview with Total Film, producer Doug Mitchell revealed that the idea for Furiosa was ready in a story sense a decade and a half ago.
According to Mitchell, the project has been brewing in George Miller’s mind for years, even before the action-packed Fury Road hit the big screens. The script for Furiosa was actually completed before the filming of Fury Road, showcasing the long journey it has taken to come to fruition.
Interestingly, Furiosa was initially envisioned as an anime spin-off titled The Peach, with plans for Mahiro Maeda to direct. Maeda, known for his work on iconic projects like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Studio Ghibli, had a hand in shaping the early stages of the project.
Now, after years of development, Furiosa is finally set to hit cinemas on May 24. The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the fierce warrior navigating the post-apocalyptic wasteland, alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke in supporting roles.
