In a recent baseball game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Francisco Giants, right-hander Ryne Nelson had to exit the match due to a bruised pitching elbow after being hit by a line drive in the second inning. The incident occurred when the ball left Mike Yastrzemski’s bat at 87 mph, causing Nelson to grimace and hold his right forearm as he walked back to the dugout.
Despite the injury, Nelson managed to field the ball and throw out Yastrzemski at first base, ending the inning. However, he was visibly in discomfort and had to be replaced by left-hander Logan Allen. Allen, in turn, allowed a run on three hits in the third inning, giving San Francisco a 1-0 lead.
Prior to the injury, Nelson had a record of 1-2 with a 5.27 ERA in three starts this season. Last year, as a rookie, he held an 8-8 record with a 5.31 ERA. The 26-year-old pitcher’s performance will be missed by the Diamondbacks as they navigate through the season.
