Swedish Artists Boycott Eurovision 2024 Over Israel’s Participation

A series of Swedish artists are boycotting Eurovision 2024 in Malmö in protest of Israel’s participation, as reported by AFTONBLADET newspaper. The first notable withdrawal is from the musical duo Medina, known for their Arabic-influenced hip-hop music. The duo, consisting of Sami Daniel Rekik and Ali Jammali, gained recognition through their participation in Melodifestivalen, securing second place in 2022 and 2024.

Another artist, Dotter, famous for songs like ‘Bulletproof’ and ‘Cry’, has also canceled her participation in Eurovision Village events. Titiyo, a Grammy Award-winning artist from Sierra Leone, has also decided to abstain from preparties and other festivities in Malmö.

The protest against Israel’s participation has been echoed by various Swedish artists, following similar actions taken in previous Eurovision contests. This demonstration of solidarity is part of a growing trend among artists to voice their concerns regarding certain countries’ involvement in the competition.
