Gamer Buys 4,000 Copies of Alan Wake, None of Them Work

Alan Wake, from Max Payne and Control creator Remedy, is a horror classic, prompting one player to buy 4,000 copies that don’t even work.

Alan Wake, XCOM, Civilization, and Half-Life are considered PC classics. When it comes to collector’s editions, reissues, or game of the year overhauls, players may be tempted to buy a second copy of some beloved stalwarts. However, one gamer took it to the extreme by purchasing 4,000 copies of the original 2010 horror shooter, Alan Wake.

Spooky, smart, and with a sharp, tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, Alan Wake remains one of the must-play horror games of the past 15 years. Speaking exclusively to PCGamesN, Alisa, an AV technician and supreme Alan Wake fan, explained her love for the game and Remedy’s storytelling. She purchased 4,000 printed, promotional cards, each containing a separate download for the original Alan Wake after spotting an unusual listing on eBay.

Alisa speculates that the download cards may have originated from a game store that was shut down, leading to an excess of Alan Wake download cards left on their shelf. Despite the cards taking a bit of damage during shipping, she now owns a total of 50kg of psychological horror goodness.
