Verizon has reached a $100 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit over administrative charges, and eligible current and former customers have a limited time to claim their portion of the settlement.
The settlement applies to individuals who received postpaid wireless or data services from Verizon and were charged an Administrative Charge and/or an Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023. Claims must be submitted online or by mail before the filing window closes.
The amount each eligible individual will receive is expected to vary, with a base of $15 and an additional $1 for each month they were subject to the administrative fee. Payments are capped at $100 per account holder.
Verizon has emphasized that the settlement does not include an admission of wrongdoing or liability from the company. The lawsuit alleged that Verizon falsely advertised its wireless services at lower monthly rates by not disclosing the monthly administrative charge imposed on its post-paid wireless service customers.
Verizon spokesperson Rich Young stated that the company clearly identifies and describes its wireless consumer Admin Charge multiple times during the sales transaction, marketing, contracts, and billing, and that the charge helps the company recover regulatory compliance and network-related costs.
Eligible individuals are urged to submit their claims before the deadline to ensure they receive their portion of the settlement.
