Flu Season Hits Nevada County: Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Opens Additional Rooms to Accommodate High Illness Rate
As flu season continues to grip Nevada County, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley has been forced to open up additional rooms on its first floor to accommodate the surge in patients experiencing flu, respiratory, or COVID related symptoms.
According to Julie Ostrom, Chief Nurse Executive Officer at Dignity Health Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, the hospital is witnessing a significant rise in flu and respiratory illnesses. Ostrom stated, ‘We are definitely seeing flu season be alive and well in Nevada County. We have active cases in the ER and admitted to the hospital every day. The same is true for COVID and RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) right now so respiratory is probably even more prevalent in those two categories.’
If you’ve been feeling under the weather, you’re not alone. The increase in flu and respiratory illnesses is a concerning trend in Nevada County, prompting the hospital to take measures to accommodate the growing number of patients in need of medical attention.
