Weekend Forecast and Solar Eclipse in Newfoundland and Labrador

The weekend forecast brings a mix of weather conditions across Newfoundland and Labrador, with Monday marking a particularly rare event – a solar eclipse. Meteorologist Eddie Sheerr provides the latest update on the upcoming weather.

Sunday’s Forecast

Central and eastern parts of the Island can expect a few flurries or showers, while the West Coast, Northern Peninsula, and South Coast will experience a mix of sun and cloud. Temperatures will range from 0 near north-facing shores to as warm as 7°C inland and south.

Monday – Eclipse Day!

Central and western Newfoundland are likely to witness partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies, offering an excellent opportunity to view the first solar eclipse since 1970. However, the Avalon’s weather remains uncertain, with some computer models suggesting possible snow. Skygazers are advised to stay updated on the latest cloud cover predictions for optimal eclipse viewing.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Flurries are expected across the Island, with Labrador experiencing a mix of flurries in the east and sun and cloud in the west. Temperatures will range from 0 to -3. Wednesday will bring flurries to the Island and highs near 0, while the Big Land will see sun and cloud with highs of 1.
