Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, parents to 16-year-old daughter Harlow and 14-year-old son Sparrow, recently reacted to the news of Benji Madden and Cameron Diaz naming their son Cardinal. The couple expressed their happiness and surprise at the choice of name, emphasizing that they are not taking credit for the trend of bird names in the family.

During an interview with ET’s Cassie DiLaura at the premiere of Nicole’s new film, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, Nicole and Joel discussed the topic of bird names in the family. When asked if Benji consulted Joel about choosing a bird name for his son, Nicole responded, ‘I didn’t ask, but I really don’t think they did. I think it’s just a twin thing — who knows?’ She also mentioned that ‘everyone’s amazing’ amidst the new addition to the family.

Joel Madden also shared his thoughts on his nephew’s name during an interview on the red carpet at AMC The Grove in Los Angeles. ‘It was a surprise to all of us. We’re all very happy though,’ Joel expressed.
