An actress with a diverse career in film and television, Jennifer Leak D’Auria, passed away at her home in Jupiter, Fla., on March 18. She was 76 years old and had been battling a rare neurological disease, progressive supranuclear palsy, for the past seven years.
Ms. D’Auria’s career took off at the age of 17 when she filmed a pilot for a Canadian television series called “Wojeck.” Her natural talents caught the attention of renowned film director Mike Nichols, leading to a role in the iconic film “The Graduate.” However, immigration issues prevented her from participating in the shoot. She later ventured to Los Angeles, where she landed roles in notable productions such as “Yours, Mine and Ours” and various TV shows including “Hawaii Five-0,” “Nero Wolfe,” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” Her passion for daytime television blossomed, and she found joy in her performances on “The Young and the Restless” and “Another World.”
Her personal life intertwined with her professional journey when she met her future husband in New York. They married in 1977 and eventually settled in East Hampton and Amagansett before relocating to Florida. Despite her successful acting career, Ms. D’Auria also worked as a sales agent with a real estate company in East Hampton.
Born in Cardiff, Wales, on Sept. 28, 1947, Ms. D’Auria spent her early years in England before moving to various locations, including Nova Scotia, Jerusalem, and Toronto. Her battle with progressive supranuclear palsy led her to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, where she participated in research programs and eventually donated her brain tissue for further study.
Her husband described her as a private individual who only revealed her electric charisma when in front of the camera. Her passing marks the end of a remarkable career and a life filled with diverse experiences.
