Certain Affinity, a co-developer of popular games like Halo and Call of Duty, has recently announced a wave of layoffs affecting 25 US-based staff members. This marks the first time in the studio’s 17+ year history that such a decision has been made.
The announcement came directly from CEO Max Hoberman, who addressed the layoffs in a detailed post on the developer’s website. According to Hoberman, the layoffs have the most impact on the teams responsible for the studio’s business operations. With the company currently employing over 250 full-time staff, this move affects approximately 10% of its workforce.
Certain Affinity played a significant role in the development of Halo: Infinite, making this decision all the more noteworthy. Hoberman highlighted that several factors contributed to this unprecedented move, including a slowdown in the funding of new lead and co-development projects across the industry, as well as a reluctance from third-party investors to fund games or game development.
