Ricoh Imaging has recently unveiled its latest offerings, the Ricoh GR III HDF and GR IIIx HDF cameras, which come equipped with a new highlight diffusion filter (HDF) designed to produce softer, dreamier photos. This innovative feature, developed using Ricoh’s advanced inkjet technology, allows photographers to create images reminiscent of those captured in film photography or vintage movies.

The HDF can be easily enabled or disabled with a single action, providing users with the flexibility to switch between different visual effects. When enabled, the filter diffuses highlight areas and creates a subtle blurring effect around the edges of the image, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the photos.

Notably, the decision to incorporate the HDF into the GR III series aligns with the growing trend of photographers seeking to infuse their images with analog-inspired aesthetics. This move comes at a time when Ricoh is also gearing up to release its Pentax film camera, reflecting a broader industry shift towards vintage visual styles.

Ken Curry, the president of Ricoh Imaging Americas Corporation, emphasized that the new GR HDF models retain the core strengths of the GR series, including exceptional image quality, user-friendly operation, and portability. The addition of the HDF introduces a fresh creative dimension to snapshot photography, expanding the creative possibilities for users.

It is worth noting that the GR III HDF and GR IIIx HDF maintain the outstanding image quality of their predecessors, capturing sharp, detailed 24.2-megapixel images with 28mm f/2.8 and 40mm f/2.8 equivalent lenses, respectively. Furthermore, the models feature a new silver finish on the shutter release, enhancing their visual appeal.
